It is said that Hua Tuo, a famous physician in ancient China, created the Five Animal-mimic Frolics. It is the earliest systematic method of Daoyin for physical training, aiming at promoting qi and blood circulation, strengthening the body function and prolonging life by regulations of the nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, motor and digestive system. The exercise mimics the movements and gestures of the crane, bear, tiger, deer and monkey. There are many variations of the Five Animal-mimic Frolics over the generations, which have much in common. The exercise is effective for chronic gastritis, gastric ulcer, hypertension, constipation, chronic bronchitis, joint disorders and prostatomegaly.
