Bone Needle
With the progress in making stone implements ancient people began to process bone products, including bone needles and awls for medical practice.  Massive bone needles unearthed confirm the fact that bone needles were widely used in that period.

Bone Needle (in a Needle Tube)

These bone needles were unearthed in Baotou, Inner Mongolia (the New Stone Age, about 5000B.C.).  The longest one is 10.5cm, while the shortest is 3.8cm.  The tube is 15.3cm in length.  They were made of animal limb bone.  It is suspected that they are reproductions.

Bone Needle

These bone needles were unearthed from the ruins of the Daxi Culture (in the period of the New Stone Age(about 5000B.C.)) in Wushan, Sichuan province.  The longest one is 16cm, while the shortest is 9.2cm,with a smooth body and sharp ends.  They are now kept in the Medical History Museum of the Chengdu University of Chinese Medicine.
