Hypochondriac Pain

It is usually seen in acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, hepatocarcinoma, acute and chronic cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, ascariasis of the biliary tract and intercostal neuralgia. Unilateral or bilateral pain often occurs in the hypochondriac region.

(1) Acupuncture

Excess syndrome: Stagnation of liver-qi, damp-heat in the liver and gallbladder

Prescription: Qimen (LR14), Zhigou (TE6), Yanglingquan (GB34), Zusanli (ST36), Taichong (LR3)

Deficiency syndrome: Insufficiency of essence and blood

Prescription: Ganshu (BL18), Shenshu (BL23), Qimen (LR14), Zusanli (ST36), Sanyinjiao (SP6)

(2) Dermal Needling: It is effective for hypochondriac pain caused by overstrains, and it acts to kill pain and resolve stasis.

(3) Ear Acupuncture: chest (AH10), occiput (AT3), ear-shenmen (TF4), liver (CO12)

Ear acupuncture is applied when hypochondriac pain attacks.
