Vomiting is usually seen in acute gastritis, pyloric spasm (or obstruction), gastric neurosis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis, etc., characterized by vomiting undigested food, sputum, fluid and bile, or dry vomiting in Western medicine.

(1) Acupuncture

Treating principles: To regulate the spleen and harmonize the stomach, send qi downward to stop vomiting

Prescription: Zhongwan (CV12), Weishu (BL21), Nneiguan (PC6), Zusanli (ST36)

Vomiting due to heat—Hegu (LI4), Jinjin (EX-HN12), Yuye (EX-HN13)

Vomiting due to cold—Shangwan (CV13), Weishu (BL21)

Vomiting due to phlegm-fluid retention—Danzhong (CV17), Fenglong (ST40)

Vomiting due to indigestion—Xiawan (CV10), Xuanji (CV21)

Vomiting due to stagnation of liver qi—Yanglingquan (GB34), Taichong (LR3)

Deficiency in the spleen and stomach—Pishu (BL20), Zhangmen (LR13)

(2) Ear Acupuncture: stomach (CO4), liver (CO12), brain(AT3,4i), ear-shenmen (TF4), and sympathetic (AH6a)

【Remarks】
-
(1) It is most effective for vomiting. Morning sickness or vomiting due to drug reaction can also be treated with acupuncture.

(2) If vomiting is caused by severe obstruction of the upper digestive tract, tumor , and brain-derived vomiting, besides acupuncture treatment the primary disease should be dealt with.
