Although Emperor Li Zhi (628-683) of the Tang Dynasty (628-907) was in poor health, he did not believe that the miraculous cure did exist.

During his reign, he issued an order to revise the herbal book Xin Xiu Ben Cao (Newly Revised Materia Medica) in 657, the first pharmacopoeia in Chinese history, and it was completed in 659. It was a great work of the government.

Unfortunately, Emperor Li Zhi always felt dizzy and the condition got worse and worse, which seemed like hypertension today. It was difficult for him to handle the governmental affairs.
