| The Fore Father of Japanese Medicine: Buddhist Monk Jianzhen |
Jianzhen, an eminent Buddhist monk of the Tang Dynasty (618～907), arrived with his disciples in Japan in 753 after six eastward sea voyages in ten years. Devoting himself to the promotion of traditional Chinese medicine in Japan, he exerted great influence over the development of Japanese medicine at the time. Before the 14th century, medical circles in Japan regarded Jianzhen as the fore father of medicine in Japan.
