Standardization of Medicinal Preparations in Ancient Times
 
Between 1078 and 1085 Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang (Formulas of the Bureau of People’s Welfare Pharmacy) was compiled, which set the standards for medicinal preparations. Since it was compiled under the supervision of the government, it represented the great achievement of the study of formulas.

  Kai Bao Ben Cao (Kai Bao Materia Medica)
   
It was compiled in 973, containing 983 medicinal substances and 139 species, more than those recorded in Xin Xiu Ben Cao (Newly Compiled Materia Medica). Then the former was replaced by the latter. In 1061 Ben Cao Tu Jing (Illustrated Materia Medica) was compiled. It was the first book of materia medica with drawings of herbs published by the government.
 
Qing Ming Shang He Tu ,(Life along the Bian River at the Pure Brightness Festival,a painting)by Zhang Zeduan, a famous painter of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), in which a Chinese pharmacy with a signboard of “Treatment of Cold of the Stomach and Intestines by Center-Regulating Pills”) stands there
