Founded in 1956, the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) is one of the earliest established traditional Chinese medical institutions for higher education in the People’s Republic of China. It is the only traditional Chinese medical higher education institution that entered the “211 Project” for national development.
At present, the university consists of the following schools and departments: School of Pre-clinical Medicine, School of Chinese Pharmacy, School of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, School of Administration, School of Nursing, School of the Humanities, International School, School of Distance Education, School of Continuing Education, the 1st Clinical Medicine School, the 2nd Clinical Medicine School, the 3rd Clinical Medicine School, Training Center for Students from Hong Kong and Macao, Department of Tertiary Vocational Education, Physical Culture Department, and Information Center.
BUCM has striven to build a professional training system emphasizing high-level education to prepare students for the new century. There are nine major programs offered by the university; namely, Chinese Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina, Public Industry Management, Business Administration, Nursing, English Language (geared towards medicine) and Law (geared towards health), among which there is a 7-year program for Chinese medicine majors.
Among those schools, the International School trains overseas students, mostly undergraduate students and continuing education students. English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Spanish are used in teaching for short-term students. Meanwhile, there are preparatory classes for undergraduate education and advanced study classes for the Chinese physician qualification examination. |
