| Li Ji Medical School, Rui’an, Zhejiang province was founded in 1885. It was the first private medical school in China. Chen Qiu was the founder, and he was a famous representative reformist and a physician in the late Qing Dynasty (1644~1911) in Zhejiang province. He tried to integrate the Western pattern of education and methodology into the Chinese feudal educational system, for which a new system of management was established. According to the new system, students had to study for 5 years and pass the final examination before graduation. In addition, all the students were required to live full-time in the school. A great number of medical students were trained in the school, and a new educational system of medical schools was thereby initiated. |
