Emergence of Contemporary Traditional Chinese Medical Education
 
In modern times(1860~1949) the Imperial Medical Institution underwent reform. In 1867, the medical school under the administrative control of the Imperial Medical Institution was restored. Later, Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1644~1911) issued an order to establish medical schools under the rule of the Peking Great Academy, which was set up in Nov. 1898.

Zhang Zhidong (1837~1909)
  In 1903,Emperor GuangXu appointed Zhang Zhidong President of the Peking Great Academy and in 1903 the traditional Chinese medicine school of the Academy was set up to satisfy the needs for professional education.Several dozens pf students were enrolled.
