In the Song Dynasty (960~1279) the Imperial Academy of Medicine was an independent medical educational and medical care establishment, similar to today’s university of traditional Chinese medicine and its affiliated hospital. The president and vice-president were responsible for education while every discipline had its own imperial academician of medicine, in charge of teaching. This kind of medical school was first incorporated into the official educational system.
The Imperial Academy of Medicine adopted the gradation teaching and elimination systems to reform and improve the medical education. The system of education, enrollment and examination were far better than that of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The bronze figure was used in acupuncture study and it was an unprecedented example in medical education. |
